Cambodia’s capital sits at the confluence of the Mekong, Bassac and Tonle Sap rivers. Considered the loveliest of the French built cities of Indochina, it was founded as a small monastery in the late 14th century by a rich Khmer woman called Penh, after she found four Buddha statues in a tree trunk on the banks of the Mekong. She set up the monastery on a nearby hill - or ‘phnom’ as it is called in the Khmer language. Distinguished French colonial homes, tree-lined boulevards and charming colonial architecture dot the waterfront.

Possibly the best way to see the city is by cyclo tour to Wat Phnom, along Sisowath Quay and to other centrally located sites such as the Royal Palace. The capital is easily reached by plane as it served by 17 international carriers at last count. It is also the hub for most road travel as well as accessible by boat.
Around the city there are various attractions to discover and experiences of the local life, cultural heritage or natural beauty awaiting the traveller. Please refer to the list below for more excursion details.
